Ultrasound Imaging is also known as “sonography”. It is a safe, simple and painless imaging procedure that bounces high-frequency sound waves off parts of the body and captures the returning “echoes” as images. There is no radiation exposure associated with ultrasound diagnostics and there are no injections.

Ultrasound is also able to capture moving images of abdominal functions (including gallstones), the male reproductive system, breast abnormalities, thyroid systems and the kidney. When combined with a special Doppler technique, ultrasound can also capture moving images of blood flow through large blood vessels and moving images of the heart using echocardiography.

Our certified technologists are specially trained on the advanced ultrasound imaging equipment (LOGIQ E9 with XD Clear) at Columbus Diagnostic Center to follow the course of pregnancies, determine abnormalities in developing babies, locate gallstones, and evaluate blood vessels along with other diagnostic uses.

Columbus Diagnostic Center utilizes a new ultrasound technology machine called LogipE9 with XDclear. The new technology allows us to:

• Visualize blood flow without limitations of Doppler
• Achieve deep penetration on large patients
• Offer non-invasive and less radiation that x-ray or CT exams
• Cross XBeam combines multiple images from different angles into singles, real-time image
• Enables and captures 3D images of organs and tissue

WHAT SHOULD I EXCEPT DURING AN ULTRASOUND EXAM?

Patient will be asked to remove any articles of clothing or jewelry surrounding the area to be imaged. In some cases, the patient may be asked to wear a gown.

The technologist will help you be positioned on an examination table. A clear gel (which helps “connect” the ultrasound transducer to the skin) is applied to the area to be examined. The technologist will then bring the transducer into contact with your skin and sweep it back and forth to image the area of interest. The patient is simply required to relax and stay calm during the examination.

After the ultrasound images are reviewed, the patient will be released from the imaging department or center. In some cases, more images may need to be taken.

DOES CDC OFFER OB ULTRASOUND SCANNING? WHAT IS IT FOR?

Yes, we do offer OB scanning. Obstetric (OB) Ultrasound is the use of ultrasound scans during pregnancy. This is an exam technique used to monitor fetal development and heart beat and can also confirm the sex of a baby, depending on the length of pregnancy.

IS ULTRASOUND IMAGING SAFE?

Ultrasound imaging (also called ultrasound scanning or sonography) is a relatively inexpensive, fast and radiation-free imaging modality. Ultrasound is excellent for non-invasive imaging and diagnosing a number of organs and conditions, without x-ray radiation.
